Dayalu Baba making tea for visitors to the ashram. He cooks on a mud stove using wood fire. Gas cylinders have not yet come to these areas. Other than red tea, milk and sugar he also puts cardamom and cloves.
Two days ago, on the auspicious occasion of Amalaki Ekadashi, one of the greatest saints and mystic yogis I have known in this life has entered samadhi and left us. He was an amazing personality who could see past, present, and future, and just by looking at you he knew everything you did, your background, your problems, and all varieties of details about you.
This year Shivaratri fell on March 1st, and as mentioned in a previous post we wanted to help Dayalu Baba with the festival by arranging for the feeding of all the visitors and devotees throughout the day and night.
I was thinking not to post this one because people may get caught up on the interpretation. But finally I thought I might as well put it out there, and leave it for everyone to interpret how they like.
I recently saw these nice photos of Haridwar posted by a devotee, which reminded me of a few random things about Haridwar and the coin hunters.
Every year around January 15th we help to organize the Makara Sankranti festival at Dayalu Baba’s ashram in Odisha. Dayalu Baba is a sadhu who has been living at the base of a sacred mountain on the edge of Odisha’s Simlipal forest range for many decades. This year we arranged to feed all the visitors for three days (14th, 15th and 16th of January) from morning till evening.
In North India the sadhus keep akhanda dhuni, which they worship three times a day and keep burning continuously. It is the same as nitya yagya (daily fire sacrifice).
Every year during the month of Kartika our two temples arrange for special programs each evening, with kirtana, offering of ghee lamps by all visitors, and distribution of prasadam.
On one of my recent trips I went to visit the ashram of Dayalu Baba, a sadhu residing on the edge of the Salandi reserve forest in Odisha, I noticed his glasses were broken and were missing one arm. He had improvised by tying a string around it, and was wearing them crooked because without the other arm they couldn’t stay straight.
The universe exists independent of our perception of it. The eyes and senses are like the imperfect screens of a cell phone. Some model will have higher resolution and some lower, some are black and white, some are color, some can show photos in 3d, some can’t. Various phones can display the same image data but it will look completely different depending on the capacity of the device.
